A modern, art-stricken love story, told in three parts.

Lizzie and Lucas moved quickly from first date, to first time together; from first fight, to first “I love you”. Now, years into their relationship and deeply rooted in each other’s lives, there comes a question: what do we need to feel whole?

WHAT YOU CAN’T KEEP is a tender, poetic, and humorous exploration of modern love, told in three lyrical acts. Written by Harrison David Rivers and directed by Tyler Michaels King, this “meet-cute-meets-art-house” film follows Lizzie and Lucas—two young artists whose relationship blooms fast and burns bright, then slowly complicates under the weight of time, memory, and self-discovery.

From their alluring first encounter to the intimate complexities of long-term love, WHAT YOU CAN’T KEEP unfolds in a series of raw, sharply observed moments—confessionals on past love and losses while finding hope for the future. As Lizzie and Lucas navigate the highs of infatuation, the heartbreak of growing pains, and the quiet question of whether love alone is enough, the film delicately captures the poetry of ordinary life and the yearning of human connection.

Shot over five years, this deeply personal trio of short films reflects the evolution of both its characters and the artists behind them. At once hilarious and heartfelt, familiar and fresh, WHAT YOU CAN’T KEEP invites us to ask: what remains when nothing is certain, and what do we hold on to when we let go?
