FROM INCEPTION TO FIRST PRODUCTION
Our Creative PROCESS
From conception of an idea to full production, Trademark guides both art and artist toward the most impactful interpretation of each story told through three integral phases.
COMMISSIONING
Trademark invests in artists and their new works at the earliest stages of their creative process. Often before pen is even put to paper, Trademark commissions bold, imaginative, and innovative playwrights, composers, lyricists, and theater-makers to generate their ideas under the Trademark umbrella, offering time, resources, space, and critical feedback.
At this stage, ideas take form, worlds are built, and music comes alive.
DEVELOPMENT
Because of Trademark’s commitment to high-quality entertainment, our organization invests in extensive workshop and development processes for all of our new works. Each development timeline can range from 3 to 5 years or more. Throughout the development process, new works are refined through workshops in which artists are provided with 1-to-2 weeks of rehearsal time with directors, actors, and designers to then hear the work aloud, edit scripts, revise scores, and strengthen their stories.
Workshops culminate in public readings, at which audiences will see a work-in-progress presentation of the new work. It is during these events that our new works mission comes most alive as artist, art, and audiences come together to engage with bold stories still taking shape. Artists gain valuable insights from the live audience response and post-viewing feedback, while audiences gain a deeper understanding of our daring new works and the creative process that brings them to life.
PRODUCTION
Trademark’s creative process culminates in world premiere productions of new works on stages all across the Twin Cities. With fully produced production elements and talented artists on stage and behind the curtain, Trademark creates daring and exciting theater experiences for adventurous audiences. Our world premieres introduce new ideas, provide exciting, inspiring and impactful entertainment to the Twin Cities, and invigorate our community.
