IN THE WORKS

Where New Theater BEGINS

The IN THE WORKS Commissioning and Showcase program is designed to support artists at the very earliest stages of their creative process. Supporting both emerging and established playwrights, composers, lyricists, theater-makers, and creative teams, the ITW program welcomes artists with bold ideas, innovative styles, and unique voices to create stories under the Trademark umbrella.

Over one calendar year, artists are given financial support and consistent opportunities for critical feedback to support the development of their new works.  At the end of this annual cycle, each artist or creative team in the cohort will receive a 16 hour workshop followed by a public reading at the IN THE WORKS SHOWCASE. This provides each artist and their new work with a 20 minute “proof of concept” cutting of their play or musical to share with a live audience.

Since the platform's inception, Trademark has worked with many talented artists to bring their ideas to fruition including Harrison David Rivers, JuCoby Johnson, David Darrow, Kira Obolensky, Meghan Kreidler and her rock band Kiss the Tiger, Eric Sharp, Keith Hovis, Emma Lai, Hannah Bakke, and Vinecia Coleman. Visit our production, development and commission page to see our detailed commissioning history.

Starting in Season 10, Trademark Theater will host open submission windows for artists interested in working with Trademark via the IN THE WORKS program. Submission information can be found by clicking the button below.
